The Worm Gear Hand Winches from Thern Winches & Cranes that are available at LES USA have fewer moving parts and are best known for their superior endurance and high reliability. Within a Worm gear is a gearbox which has two major parts called the worm and the bull gear.

It has been generalized that worm gear winches have a slower line speed and are less efficient than other designs. However, they can be self-braking, meaning that they stop when the driving worm gear stops which is make the process safer. The Worm Gear Hand winches from Thern Winches & Cranes provide accurate operation and long-lasting service for your industry. The models from Thern Winches & Cranes are enclosed in an oil bath which provides continuous lubrication of gears to minimize wear, except on Model 465 . On Model 4WM2 oil seals keep oil in and dirt out.

Model 4WM2 can be drill-driven with a maximum of 400 rpm drill (Hex Drive and a handle are included). Additionally, the Thern Winches & Cranes Automatic Brake Models provide positive load control for lifting. Brake models have a PB or B suffix. Model 4WM2 features an internal mechanical brake and is the model commonly found on our Davit Cranes .
